The 'Be The Wall' campaign, sponsored by the Benton County Above the Influence Coalition, consists of pledges from community members promising to stand up against underage drinking and drug use in Benton County. The pledges, signatures on 'brick' postcards, will be collected through October and will ultimately be displayed at the county courthouse from October 28th-November 5th in recognition of National Red Ribbon Week.

A farm safety day camp for any Benton County student in 4th, 5th and 6th grade is being planned for Saturday, September 25, 2010. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton. The Benton County Extension Service in conjunction with Progressive Agriculture, Benton County Farm Bureau, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA, Benton Community FFA, Vinton Family Practice, Virginia Gay Hospital and county beef, pork and dairy commodity groups are sponsoring the event.

The 24th Annual Tri-State Ag Lender’s Seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 9th at the Midway Best Western Hotel in Dubuque, Iowa (3100 Dodge Street) between Kmart and Cedar Cross Road. This seminar is sponsored by the Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin Extension Offices and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville School of Agriculture.

Stop on out to the Benton County Fairgrounds on Friday night, September 17th.   The beer tent will be open at 6pm, with live entertainment starting about 8pm until midnight,  with the Boogie Woogers! Mitch Smith and Dan Boddicker have been performing together for over 30 years. Since their first jam session at a 4th of July party at the tender age of 14 in 1976, this duo have been key players in some of the heaviest hitting, trend setting bands in Eastern Iowa.

Boomtown comes to Vinton this weekend! Below is a schedule of Saturday events: BREAKFAST 7-11 a.m. Start your day out right with a  breakfast you won't forget! The Iowa Pyrotehnics Association brings Chris Cakes to town for some pancake flippin' fun! (and its good too!) Chris Cakes will be cooking and throwing the hot cakes.
